The word Pandemonium was coined by John Milton in “Paradise Lost”. It was a place of chaos and filled with demons – basically hell. This image captions it perfectly!

This horse skull Chromolithograph is from an unknown artist. A Chromolithograph is a multi-color print made by stamping paper with stone plates covered in ink. Actually, I oversimplified the process a lot – feel free to read more about them at Wikipedia.

Moon photographs from the 1860s! That is over 150 years ago! The first camera was only invented 40s year earlier. Vintage astronomy, very rad. The photographer was George Washington Wilson(1823-1893) – a pioneer in photography. He created techniques for outdoor picture taking and the mass production of prints.
Bonus picture is of Wilson with his cute dog!

Charles Marville captured this amazing photograph of the roof and spires of Notre Dame. The Notre Dame is located in Paris, France. It is a well known Medieval Cathedral due to its extraordinary Gothic style architecture. This photo is unique for two reasons – its age and perspective.

An Inu Hariko is a kind of traditional Japanese dog doll. It is a cute amulet that was said to ward of evil. However, now it is used more as a toy or decoration. This cutie was made by Shitayama sometime in the mid-19th century.

The maker is Charles Kretzschmann whom based the design on ‘buccins’, which means mediaeval trumpets. Of course, as cool as the style is – the main attraction for this instrument is the monster head!!

From dogs to parrots – pet paintings are always special, 19th century or otherwise. These adorable animal portraits by Edwin Landseer are incredible at capturing the personality of the pets. Most of the paintings even have the pet’s actual name!

Firstly, what a bad ass name! Giant cloud rat!? Secondly, looks like a rat and guinea pig mixed together, which are two of my favorite animals. They can weigh as much as 5 pounds and be as long as 30 inches(including tail). Image is by Christophe Annedouche.
