Beauty & The Beast (1874)

In 1874, Walter Crane wrote the book “Beauty and The Beast” based on the fairy tale ‘La Belle et la Bête’ by the French novelist Garielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve.

There are many variations of the base fairytale from all over the world. However, this book was the first to be called by the iconic name in American culture.

It also included various illustrations along with this lovely portrait of the famous couple. The Beast was strikingly different from the movies most of us grew up on!
